2014 NBA Trade Rumors: New York Knicks no longer interested in Rajon Rondo because of his lack of fit in the Triangle Offense? He can't shoot?

The Boston Celtics star point guard Rajon Rondo has been linked to the New York Knicks in numerous free agent/trade rumors. The Knicks, though, may no longer be interested with Rondo simply because he is a bad fit in the triangle offense according to Nate Duncan of Basketball Insiders.

"He is just about as bad as it gets in the triangle, because he is best out of a one guard front handling the ball in pick and roll, and because he can't shoot," Duncan wrote on Tuesday.

The Knicks were certainly interested acquiring Rondo but that was before Phil Jackson stepped in as the team's President. Now that the "Zen Master" is running things in New York basketball bringing with him his famed Triangle offense, the New York Post questions if the team will still attempt to make a run for the former Kentucky star:

Celtics PG Rajon Rondo, a 2015 free-agent target, is out another five weeks after breaking his hand right before training camp. Rondo could be traded before he hits free agency. Though he is a favorite of Carmelo Anthony, Rondo doesn't necessarily mesh well in the triangle because he is an average perimeter shooter.

For the Triangle offense to work, the team's point guard must be a solid shooter and its highly unlikely that Rondo will miraculously evolve into a decent shooter at this point in his career. While he has indeed worked on improving his shot and will continue to do so, Bryan Rose of Fansided believes that New York has plenty of options in the point guard position that are a better fit in the Triangle than Rondo even though they are not as talented

Derick Fisher - now the Knicks head coach - was not a talented point guard and certainly wasn't All-Star caliber but he was a key component in the triangle offense that the Los Angeles Lakers used in winning five NBA championships during the Phil Jackson era because of his deadly accuracy from beyond the arc. Rondo just shot 25% from the 3-point line last season and unfortunately for him, he needs to shoot way better if he wants to excel in the triangle.
