Gennady Golovkin's coach, Abel Sanchez says that his fighter might be able to get a match with Floyd Mayweather Jr. next year if Pacquiao doesn't deliver on his upcoming fight against Chris Algieri in an interview with OnTheRopesBoxing.com.
Abel says that, "If he (Pacquiao) doesn't look good even if he wins, then it's not a profitable fight for Floyd." He goes on to add that Floyd wants profitable fights and that, "Floyd's about making the biggest fights and if Golovkin is the biggest fight, I'm sure he'll consider it."
For boxing fans wanting to see Mayweather Jr. versus Pacquiao, this makes the dream match more improbable since a lot of boxing critics and analysts are saying that Pacquiao might have a hard time against Algieri. This is because his previous fight with Timothy Bradley, he didn't look so impressive and people are even saying that he has lost his power.
Not to mention a lot of people are criticizing Pacquiao for dabbling in other activities that might hinder his boxing career like politics and professional basketball.
In a recent interview with Telegraph.co.uk, Pacquiao is focusing more on his upcoming fight with Algieri instead of trying to finally settle things down for the dream fight with Mayweather JR.
"Hopefully that fight will happen by next year. I'm crossing my fingers that that fight will happen but right now my mind is already set to focus on my next fight with Algieri. I think the time to talk about that issue is after the fight", Pacquiao explains.
Pacquiao versus Algieri is held in Macau, China on November 22, 2014. Chris Algieri is undefeated and relinquished his WBO Junior Welterweight title to go up against Pacquiao in the 147lbs division.
Chris had this to say about his upcoming fight with Pacquiao in an interview with BoxingScene:
"At this point, I want the biggest fights out there. I have spent a long time fighting off TV and outside of the public eye. Now, I want that exposure and I want to fight the biggest names out there in boxing. I want to show that I belong here. It has taken me a long time to get to this point, and I don't plan on leaving now that I am here"
