Twitter Korea recently revealed its data for this year's most notable moments in the microblogging site, including most popular celebrity accounts and most re-tweeted posts.
According to allkpop, Twitter Korea's "Golden Tweet" title went to G-Dragon's "#PRAYFORSOUTHKOREA," which was this year's most re-tweeted post. The Big Bang member tweeted this back in April after the tragic Sewol ferry accident, where over 300 people died. It was shared almost 53,000 times.
"On the day the Sewol sank, the microblogging service in Korea was flooded with tweets and retweets praying for those on board the ferry to come home safely, and also checking for follow-ups," said Twitter Korea market director Soh Young-sun, as reported by Korea Herald.
Also included in the most re-tweeted posts is Siwon Choi's photo with his label mates Kyuhyun, Changmin and Minho who were dressed as Girls' Day, along with Siwon's fellow Super Junior members Heechul and Eunhyuk. With the caption, "with beautiful ladies," the post was shared over 44,000 times.
Also on the list are two tweets of MCountdown showing 360-degree shots of EXO members.
Notable topics and hashtags in 2014 include "#ThankYouYuna" for the Korean figure skater's performance in the 2014 Sochi Olympics. According to The Korea Bizwire, Koreans were outraged over a questionable judgment against Kim Yuna who lost the gold medal to Russian Adelina Sotnikova. Netizens went on thanking the athlete, which later became a trending topic.
Other popular hashtags on Twitter include "#RIPRise," "#RIPEunB," and "#PrayForLadiesCode" following the female idol group's tragic car accident, which took the lives of two of its members.
Other notable Twitter moments include the sixth local election, a preliminary FIFA World Cup match between Korea and Algeria, and Pope Francis' visit to the country.
Meanwhile, the celebrities with the most Twitter followers include Siwon with 4.4 million followers, followed by fellow Super Junior member Donghae with 4.49 million. Also in the list are YG artists G-Dragon and Psy. Super Junior members Yesung, Leeteuk, Ryeowook, and Eunhyuk also made it to the top 10.
Celebrities who gained the most followers this year are G-Dragon, 2NE1's Dara, SM Town Global, Donghae, Miss A's Suzy, Siwon, and 2PM's Nichkhun.
