There will be a new Mason Verger for Season 3 of "Hannibal." This was perhaps one of the most significant changes that had happened this week. According to TVLine, Michael Pitt, who had played the sadistic meat-packing industry figure, had played his last scenes in Season 2 and will be resurrected by Joe Anderson of "The River" fame.
In a side-by-side photo comparison done on Variety, both Pitt and Anderson have bright, blue eyes and similar bone structure, which means that the transition from a handsome character to a mutilated figure would be seamless. Moreover, Anderson himself has introduced to his Instagram fans a series of photos reportedly taken from the set, with one of him in full makeup as Verger. It was also noted that he reposted a screengrab of actor Gary Oldman, who played Verger in the 2001 film adaptation.
Meanwhile, it has been revealed that Season 3 of "Hannibal" will pick up one year after that bloody finale, Screenrant reported. Gillian Anderson's status to recurring cast member will have her play a significant role in Hannibal (Mads Mikkelsen) as he escapes the United States to Europe. Earlier at the San Diego Comic Con, it was disclosed by creator Bryan Fuller that the love between Will (Hugh Dancy) and Lecter will be played out in the season. He explained that although the entire show is fan fiction in its own right, the love between the two isn't what Tumblr fans concluded so.
"It's not necessarily a romantic love, but they have a genuine love for each other," Fuller said.
When the topic of new characters in Season 3 came up, Fuller had initially wanted musician David Bowie to appear in his series, and that the possibility of the singer gracing the show later in the season could be a reality. He said then to Collider, "We were told by his people, when we got the pick-up for the third season, to make sure to ask again about his availability. So, once we have our dates, we are going to ask again. I think the man walks on water, so I would love to be in his orbit, in some way... He's very aware [of the offer]. But he's also very, very busy. He's got lots of exciting things coming out, musically. That was the block to the second season. He's incredibly busy."
