Fans were surprised after a singer named Derrick Bullock recently claimed that Taeyang's award-winning hit song "Eyes, Nose, Lips" was actually plagiarized from his own track titled "Change Me."
According to allkpop, Bullock uploaded his song on YouTube on July 31, 2014 and later released it through iTunes on August 12. Taeyang's "Eyes, Nose, Lips," on the other hand, was released on June 3, 2014.
As fans started to notice that the background track of "Change Me" is similar to that of the K-pop artist, Bullock defended himself making claims. Bullock explained in the video description on YouTube which has been taken down, "Derrick Bullock's single (written 4 years ago contrary to popular belief) documentation and dated video feeds are available from 2008 video taping me composing this music."
Bullock continued, "It DOES NOT belong to a Korean band - it was stolen from me and used in music in Korea 4 years ago. Before you start telling Derrick he stole this music, get your facts straight. Video and paper documentation are available for proof that all rights belong to Derrick Bullock."
While comments were blocked on the YouTube video, Taeyang's fans left negative comments on Bullock's iTunes page.
According to Koreaboo, the link to Bullock's track, which is still available on iTunes, still works. Koreaboo also wrote that one of its readers had conversed with the singer through Google+. Bullock's message, reads, "I composed this music back in school more than 5 years ago with all the documentation to prove it. If anyone is getting sued it's your boy band guy that stole my music, not me. Thanks tho :)"
YG Entertainment, Taeyang's record label, spoke about the issue. The company told Sports Donga, "Currently the agency has looked into the content in question, and we're currently preparing a countermeasure."
Allkpop noted that it seems YG also requested for the video in question to be taken down. As of this writing, the video can no longer be viewed on YouTube.
"Eyes, Nose, Lips," which won Song of the Year in 2014 MAMA was written by Taeyang and Teddy, composed by Teddy, Dee.P, and Rebecca Johnson, according to Koreaboo.
