"Sister Wives" is no stranger to controversy (after all, the TLC reality series stars one man, his four wives, and their seventeen children). So Kody Brown- the patriarch of this reality show family- getting into trouble over saying something uncouth is nothing new. This time, he's managed to upset women everywhere by comparing PMS to demonic episodes.
Here's what happened on the most recent episode of "Sister Wives." The Browns were visiting another polygamist family (the Colliers, located in Billings, Montana), when all hell broke loose. Kody, it seems, has a friend named Ken who's not particularly fond of polygamy. Kody, oddly enough, is fine with this, but one of his wives (Christine) wasn't having any of it, and wanted Kody to boot his friend from the Billings trip.
Here's where things get unpleasant. Kody said the only reason his wife was upset was because she had PMS. "From now on when you're acting like this, I'm just going to walk away," he shouted at his wife (via Hollywood Life). "I'm not going to have you rattle me to my core."
Later, once the Browns were hanging out with the Billings family, the two patriarchs swapped stories of their wives' menstrual problems (that seems a little inappropriate). Kody compared his wives' PMS issues to demonic possessions, while Nathan Billings called it "hell week" when both his wives were on their periods at once.
The fight will apparently continue through the next episode of the series- TV Guide lists the January 25 episode of "Sister Wives" as follows: "Kody and Christine's blowup continues as the Browns near the final destination of their road trip. Later, they discuss the idea of courting a new wife with another polygamist family."
Naturally, plenty of people online are upset with Brown for those kinds of comments (one writer at The Stir urges him to "think before [he speaks]"). But as we said above, "Sister Wives" is basically a controversy machine, so this kind of thing is nothing new. However, according to Reality Tea, the series' ratings are starting to slip, so we may be seeing even more of this kind of thing to keep people interested in the show.
