Last Tuesday, the first day of the jury selection was done at the Colorado courthouse with an expected pool of 9,000 jurors to search for the impartial jury for a high profile case like of James Holmes, who was charged for the 2012 mass shooting in a late-night screening of the movie "The Dark Night Rises" that left 12 people dead on the spot and 70 injured.
According to Time, the jury selection process will include answering a 75-question survey. This process is expected to go on for several months depending on the difficulty of the jury to have an impartial judgment of the case. It might take until June or even October to finish the entire process, reportedly.
When Holmes appeared for the first time in the courthouse, he was wearing chains and a jail jumpsuit with his orange-shade hair, reports says. However, during the trial, the jail uniform that Holmes used to wear was changed to khaki slacks, a light-colored dress shirt and a blue blazer. From an orange dyed-hair appearance, now he trimmed his hair and dyed it with dark brown color.
On the other side, same news source cited that Holmes' conventional appearance is also a concrete implication that the jury's progress to the case are already close to see the defendant to be accussed to the crime at the Denver Theater.
He was even pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to murder and attempted murder charges. If found guilty, he might be charged to death penalty.
Holmes' sanity was evaluated by the state psychiatrist, however, the prosecutors have rejected the results and have asked the judge to have another round of evaluation.
Judge Carlos Samour, the court judge who is currently handling this case, took some initiatives that would affect the flow of the jury selection process. This may also target the attorneys as well as the ground rules of the selection per se. He clearly stated how the attorneys act as well as the ground rules for the trial.
Mirror UK also reported that there was an existing video tape that captured Holmes in the jail. However, it was directly objected. According to the prosecutors, the tape which was supposed to be used for the trial was submitted late so it was directly objected. It was also been reported that the video should be deleted, too.
So, if Holmes will be convicted, according the survivors of the attack together with their family members, they will have the peace of mind as they have been seeking justice for the lives of their loved ones for a long time.
