In the recent World Economic Forum held in Davos, ex-US president Al Gore, teamed up with hit musician Pharrell Williams, announcing the revival of the 2007's climate concert entitled Live Earth. Set to launch on June 18, 2015, the concert aims to set a record to be the biggest climate change awareness advocacy in history. The concerts will take place in the seven continents of the world and will jumpstart the efforts regarding climate change, to be followed by the UN Climate Conference in Paris to be held in December.
This year's concert is entitled Live Earth 2015 : Road to Paris. The shows' venues will include Sao Paulo Brazil, Beijing, China, Sydney Australia, New York, Johannesburg, South Africa and Paris. "You would have pundits and comedians who didn't understand global warming and we were often ridiculed. We wanted to do something very different this time." Pharell said.
Williams, the new addition to the team and the creative director of the event, kept his lips sealed regarding the concert line up. Instead, he said, "Instead of having just people perform, we literally are going to have humanity harmonise all at once." Pharell says according to the video in Reuters.
Reportedly, in a teaser clip released by the producers, they promised over 100 artists to perform, revising their initial statement of 6 continents to 7, as their venue. "The power of music is unique, because it is borderless, without language, Pharell will use that power. When you combine music with a message, you can effect change." Live Earth co-producer Kevin Wall said.
Despite the mixed reviews of various critics in the first Live Earth, this year's festival looks promising. Eight years after the first version happened, the need for catalysts are burning strong again. Will you be watching this concert? Leave your comments below.
