ABC Network's American fairy-tale themed musical comedy has ended its freshman season not with a bang, but with many unanswered questions. Episode eight has ended with nothing more than a cliffhanger, making viewers with that unsatisfying feeling that nothing seemed to be resolved. Will the series live up to its hype?
The last episode of season 1 was entitled, "It's all in the Executions." The episode came as a let-down to many of the show's fans, as they were left with many unanswered questions as well as rather annoying cliffhangers. It ended with a rather "not so happy ending" as many fans would have wanted it to end. According to TV.com, the episode started rather strongly with a song sung by Galavant's father (Anthony Stewart Head). Galavant (Joshua Sasse) and King Richard (Timothy Omundson) begin their plot to assassinate Kingsley (Rutger Hauer).
The episode sees Galavant and King Richard in a plot to kill Kingsley in cold blood right in his bedchamber. This seems like a rather cold thing for a hero to propose. The frenemies make a reluctant agreement, but they are then caught. Gareth (Vinnie Jones) comes to their rescue and agrees to look after Galavant's friends.
Perhaps the major shocker of the episode was when Madalena (Mallory Jansen) when she stabbed Kingsley in the back. The character was never likeable, but it was indeed in her character to always take maters into her own hands. She then offers Gareth the throne. We then see Isabella being locked in a giant dollhouse.
It was definitely not the Happy ending many fans were expecting, given that the series was meant to be a mid-season fill in for ABC's Once Upon a Time. Many fans are wondering if the series will be renewed for a second season. What started out as rather charming at first seemed for many to be a rather mellow season finale. According to TV by the Numbers, the final episode scored 1.1 which was up two-tenths from last week's episode. Is this enough to keep the series going? ABC has yet to make an announcement.
Will Isabella and Galavant be together or will she be forever trapped in the dollhouse? Will Madalena rule alongside Gareth? Will Galavant and King Richard return to Valencia? What do you think of the last episode of season 1?
