Fifty Shades of Grey is out in theaters in less than two weeks and movie director Sam Taylor-Johnson guarantees fans of E.L. James novel will surely fair the book in its "intense" sex scenes.
There will be a lot of sex in the movie adaptation. According to Mail Online, over 20 minutes worth of sex encounter in the 100-minute raunchy love story of a college student and a CEO.
Johnson, however, told The Independent that the movie has toned down a good number of erotic scenes in the book. Nevertheless, the film will still leave excited viewers feeling hot.
"The sex scenes are pretty intense, so I'm sure people are going to feel aroused - but I've seen them so many times that I tend to forget," she said.
The 47 year-old British filmmaker stressed the challenge doing the film was how to make it "feel like it was gratuitous" because of the dozen sex scenes. Johnson admitted in the interview she had problems with the when and how in terms of peppering the sex scene.
Johnson furthered that for her to bring these scenes the strong part of the movie, she had to give characterization to each sex scene to make them different from one another.
Mail Online also reported that the director even consulted a professional dominatrix to have inside knowledge on BDSM before filing started.
As to critics foreseeing fans becoming disappointed because the movie will not feature graphic sex scenes from the book, Johnson told The Guardian the movie will not be graphically explicit enough to be labeled as porn.
The movie, instead, will revolve around its central point on the budding romance between the billionaire Christian Grey played by Jamie Dornan and virginal college student Anastasia Steele played by Dakota Johnson.
Sam Taylor-Johnson said the sex scenes in "Fifty Shades of Grey," a movie which has been rated R for some graphic sexual content and nudity, will instead focus on the "titillation of touch and sensuality."
