Oscar Pistorius Trial Updates: Strathclyde University Strips Honorary Degree; A Heavier Sentence Awaits Before South Africa’s Supreme Court of Appeals

By

The Pistorius murder trial saga continues as the battle for securing a murder conviction is filed against the popular Olympian amputee Oscar.

"Blade Runner" is up for another emotional exhausting challenge as Strathclyde University strips him of the honorary degree awarded to him last 2012. The Scottish institution announced on February 2, Monday, "We have revoked the honorary degree awarded to Oscar Pistorius following his conviction for culpable homicide."

On the other hand, Reeva's mother, June Steenkamp tells NBC news that she's already forgiven the runner - in a Christian way, for killing her daughter. Still, she does not deny her feelings of not having closure because she felt that the trial didn't really answer all the questions in her head.

Oscar Pistorius is a South African sprint runner whose legs were amputated since he was a baby. He made history last 2012 London Olympics by becoming the first double-leg amputee to compete both the Olympic and Paralympic Games. He is a six time Paralympic sprinting champion before he was brought to the courts as the culprit of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp's death.

Pistorius is sentenced for five years in jail and a concurrent three-year suspended prison sentence for separate reckless endangerment after bringing firearm in a restaurant. He escaped a murder conviction and was found guilty of culpable homicide after admitting that he shot Reeva four times through a locked toilet door believing that she was an intruder. Prosecutors of the case argued that he intentionally killed Reeva after a heated argument, thus, leading to the appeal. Reeva's Mom even confirms Oscar's episodes of abrupt anger. The Paralympic superstar still claims his unintentional killing of Steenkamp.

The Pistorius family is already involved in another trial case as Carl Pistorius, brother of Oscar face charges of reckless driving after being involved in an accident last August, two months before Oscar was charged of murder.
