Apple's iOS 8.2, which is required for the brand's upcoming Apple Watch, is set for release in March, BGR reports.
Last week, Apple CEO Tim Cook said that their new product, Apple Watch, will be released April. He did not say the exact date it will be made available.
"We've been told by a trusted source that Apple isn't planning to release iOS 8.2 until March, according to the most recent roadmap. While iOS 8.2 will bring some general improvements and fixes to the company's mobile operating system, the big news is the support for Apple Watch," BGR writes.
The website also noted that other than the announcement of Apple Watch's release date,
Based on the report, developers were already asked to start submitting their Apple Watch apps so that these will be tested, and "some will most likely make an appearance at Apple's upcoming event," according to BGR.
Another thing to look forward to in the upcoming event is the possible unveiling of next-generation MacBook laptops.
Cult of Mac noted that these reports make sense as most iOS release numbers do not go past x.1.x. It can be remembered that when iPad debuted, Apple did so with an interim iOS version, going against that rule, iOS 3.2. The iPad and iPhone OSes were only consolidated with iOS 4.0.
Looking at this history, an iOS 8.2 version number says that it's a release of a whole new category of Apple product, which is the Apple Watch this time. Thus, it makes perfect sense that the update will be released ahead of the new product's release.
Meanwhile, iOS 8.2 is currently in its fifth beta version. It was released for registered developers just this week, according to International Business Times. According to the report, the new beta gives solution to the bug that disallowed Facebook to function properly, as well as the GMT bug in iOS 8 that created problems with calendar syncing.
