Torrent-hosting websites are being taken down from different servers around the world. Lately, Kickass torrent, also referred to as KAT, was taken out from Somalia's domain servers. The website has been blacklisted on the .so domain registry, making Kickass Torrent banned in the country permanently.
Therefore, if anyone would browse kickasstorrent.so, they will be redirected to an error page, which would indicate that the website is no longer registered on the domain server.
Reviewing KAT's history, the website has been blacklisted a number of times from different domain servers since it started in 2008. After the site was taken down in Somalia, the website was reported to have transferred to another domain server based in Tonga. According to the sources, the website is now up and active as kickasstorrent.to, which was its old domain name.
KAT became the new spot for downloaders while Pirate Bay was away for a couple of months. As a matter of fact, the toreent-hosting site became number one torrent site on the Internet. Unfortunately, the website’s increased popularity and traffic flow has caught the attention of the authorities, which eventually led the torrent site to be taken down.
A few months ago, Swedish police force successfully raided one of the Pirate Bay’s major server room based in Stockholm. The authorities had taken all the website's equipment that made the it operational. It took TPB some time before the website could makeits return a few weeks ago.
With raids and countermeasures being used against torrent sites, it is clear that the authorities are doing their best to combat piracy and copyright infringements. However, with the torrent sites' big bosses always a step ahead of the game, its also apparent that they would keep on re-appearing from one place to another.
