MERS-CoV Victim Arrives in Philippines, Filipina Nurse Infected with Virus Confirmed Pregnant

By

About three years ago, the world was shook because of the Middle East respiratory syndrome corona virus or what most people know as the MERS-CoV. The origin of the virus is yet to be discovered. But experts believe that it came from an animal.

Unfortunately, a source reported that there is currently no vaccine for MERS-CoV.

Last February 1, a Filipina nurse from Saudi Arabia went back to Philippines. At the time of their arrival, the Filipina felt normal. Hence, she was able to pass through the thermal scanner in the airport. However, she became sick the day after and decided to have herself checked. That's when they found out that she was infected by the MERS-CoV. To make matters worse, the said victim is reportedly around one month pregnant.

To avoid the spreading of virus, the patient is currently confined at the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) since last February 10.

The passengers of the same flight which the patient took were being contacted to undergo series of tests. This is to ensure that no one is affected by the virus which has killed more than 40% of its victim.

As there is still no medication for the disease, millions of people are getting worried.

In order to avoid the MERS-CoV, a source reported that the following must be adhered to. One must wash hands for at least 20 seconds. It is a must to cover your mouth and nose when sneezing and coughing and make sure to throw the used tissues accordingly.

If you have travelled to Saudi Arabia and felt sick, make sure that you get yourself checked already. It is importangt that you report immediately in order to stop the contamination of the virus.

Everyone is hoping that the cure for MERS-CoV will be discovered anytime soon. The World Health Organization is doing the best that they could to gain more knowledge about the disease.
