Tony Surratt, Uma Thurman's long time make-up artist underhandedly backfired on all the skepticism that had surrounded her client's "new look". Thurman's unrecognizable face sparked immediately a barrage of criticism after the premiere party of NBC's mini-series, "The Slap". A case in which Surratt stresses was due to an overdone eyeshadow.

"Frankly, I'm quite surprised by the conversation," he said on the Today program.

"By now I would have thought that we were all open to and knowledgeable of the role that makeup plays in the world of fashion and particularly celebrity, as a medium for creative self expression," Surratt added. "I think that women should feel open and free to experiment with different beauty looks - it's only make-up, at the end of the day it all washes off."

The acclaimed Surratt also gave his piece of mind to Refinery 29. The make-up artist revealed that Thurman's appearance was due to a more "French" approach to the eye brow and the lip. He also ascertained that it was an application of a creamy foundation which gave the actress that all-over glow. To add warmth he contoured the hairline and her cheekbones. He also concluded that he finished off everything with " a shimmering, silky-beige shadow" on the eyelids and that he appliead no mascara to Thurman at all.

However, cosmetology experts were divided in two uneven camps, regarding the Hollywood A-Lister's no longer bare face beauty. A majority of them gave acknowledged that the transformation was too prominent, especially in the area near the forehead.

This was to conclude that Thurman was using Botox on a daily basis. Dr. Victoria Karlinsky, a cosmetic surgeon on the Upper West Side was more affable in Thurman's transformation. "Whoever the makeup artist was - they can really change her look with the stroke of a brush... noting a possible lack of mascara and eyeliner leading to the noticeable change in appearance."

The 44-year-old multi-awarded Thurman had her career relaunched in late 2003 when she took on the role of "The Bride" in "Kill Bill", which reunited her with "Pulp Fiction" director Quentin Tarantino.
