Morena Baccarin, the 35-year-old Brazilian American actress will play the lead female role in the upcoming film feature of "Deadpool". Baccarin is cast to be the love interest of Ryan Reynolds' "Merc With A Mouth" character. Deadpool belongs to a big screen cross-over of the "Suicide Squad", which has a very high-profile line-up of actors included.
Baccarin is noted for her portrayal of "Inara Serra" in the American space western series, "Firefly" and its movie follow-up, "Serenity". She is also no stranger to comic book adaptations as she voiced-over Black Canary in a 2005 TV animated incarnation of Justice League. She was also previously in Showtime's hit political thriller Homeland, in which she received an Emmy for portraying a struggling wife of a retired U.S. Marine. Currently, Baccarin is part of Warner Bros. Television's Gotham.
Marvel Studios has still kept it under wraps as to what mutant character in the Marvel Universe, Baccarin will be suiting up for. Tim Miller who's credits includes Scott Pilgrim vs. The World will direct this spin-off of the X-Men film series which will have a release date next February 2015.
Meanwhile, Reynolds recently talked to Blastr on how confident he is with Miller behind the camera:
"[He's] always been the right guy. He's always, you know, shown nothing but a fierce loyalty to the canon of Deadpool and that's the thing you look for first and foremost, a guy that is always wanting to push a little bit farther. And the advantage of doing a movie like this on a budget that is significantly less than any other kind of superhero movie is that you get to do things that you don't get to do on other superhero movies so that's what we're most excited about."
Reynolds first portrayed the talkative anti-hero in the 2009 film X-Men Origins: Wolverine. He and Baccarin will also be joined in the adaptation with, T.J. Miller (Transformers: Age of Extinction, Big Hero 6), English rap-artist Ed Skrein and Mixed-martial artist Gina Carano who is confirmed to play the character of Angel Dust.
