Kris Wu and Lu Han who were former EXO Members has launched their solo careers in China after their controversial break up with their boy band group, EXO. As a series of lawsuit followed the break-up, Kris and Lu Han now faces a new case from SM Entertainment.
Kris Wu filed a lawsuit against his SM Entertainment last May 2014, demanding that the nullification of his contract with the Company. Luhan filed a similar suit last October and things have been rough with the two former EXO Members.
However, Kris and Luhan pursued their solo career in China and they have been faring well in several films and TV series. However their scheduled appearance on the Chinese Lunar New Year's TV Program "New Year's Gala" was withdrawn by the broadcaster, CCTV.
There were speculations that SM Entertainment influenced the decision of CCTV and according to an industry insider based on the report, "Hallyu has long taken root in China, expanding its stature here," adding that "Chinese entertainment companies have great interest in the Korean market. They would not want to leave a negative impression in Korea."
SM Entertainment filed another law suit against Kris and Luhan for their alleged violation of contracts when they pursued and conducted projects in China. The former EXO Members is scheduled for a mediation this February 27 but with the new lawsuit filed against them, SM's sincerity in the mediation is questionable.
SM Entertainment released an official statement with regard to the matter, stating that:
"Despite SM having the exclusive rights as Luhan's agency and management all over the world including Korea, China, and Hong Kong, [Luhan] violated his contract by starring in a Hong Kong movie, and because the Hong Kong movie production companies allowed Luhan to star in the film without any prior consent from SM, they have to take joint legal responsibility."
Up until now there are no visible signs of settlement between Kris, Luhan and SM Entertainment. This may have a negative impact on the future careers of the former EXO members.
