Jason Momoa is sure to make waves as Aquaman, if a pic posted by director Jack Snyder on his Twitter account is any indication. ‘The Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice’ director teased fans with a heavily-inked Momoa as the King of Atlantis, holding what appears to be his Trident.
The photo came with the words “Unite the Seven” in bold letters and it even came with a hashtag, #unitetheseven. Snyder wrote “There is only one true King,” which itself may also reveal a little about the movie’s plot, at least as far as Aquaman’s character is concerned. Will he be tangling with pretenders to the throne of Atlantis?
“We’re going to be kicking some ass,” the 35-year old Hawaiian-American actor told Variety about his role as one of DC Comics’ most enduring and well-loved superheroes. Warner Bros. evidently has a lot of faith that he will do just that because an Aquaman solo film is reportedly already in the pipeline, even if it is not yet clear whether shooting will begin next year or in 2017.
Momoa’s take on the King of Atlantis certainly departs from the classic comic book version of a blond, clean-cut Aquaman in an orange and green spandex costume! However, Scott Mendelson of Forbes calls this new Aquaman “bad ass” and goes further to say that he was surprised at how intimidating Momoa looks. Indeed, the native Polynesian-style tattoos and the gladiator-inspired body armor works very nicely on the Game of Thrones star, transforming him into a very convincing master of the seven seas!
The same Forbes article also points out that the Aquaman we will meet in Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice will likely be a far cry from that seen on the old Super Friends cartoon, wherein he played little more than a peripheral character. The movie, which is scheduled to hit theaters on March 2016, will go further to show Momoa playing Aquaman’s land-loving alter-ego, Arthur Curry, to further expound on the comic myth.
