Terror Attacks, Reason For $1M Security Budget In Recent Oscars

By

With the recent events of terror attacks in Europe and the looming threat of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), it comes to no surprise that the concluded The Academy Awards or The Oscars took matters seriously. The star-studded ceremony which is now on its 87th year has clearly pulled an extra emphasis in security matters due to recent events.

The necessary precautions had been heightened and the event itself allocated almost a million dollars to keep every one safe. The event employed a thousand personnel from the Los Angeles Police Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Homeland Security joining forces for a possible worst case scenario. The team-up had been dubbed as " Operation Oscar" and by far it has been the most large-scale undertaking in the history of the Academy.

In a report from DailystarUk. The following measures were conducted and coordinated from a "bunker" which was established near the venue: a concrete barrier across Hollywood Boulevard, snipers positioned on the rooftops around the Dolby Theatre,a remote-controlled forklift truck for removal of suspect's vehicle and a robot that counters chemical and environmental attacks.

A beefed-up airport-style screening was ruled. That was the first time in the history of the event that nominees and guests along with their personal body guards were to be checked. An insider earlier added that: "It doesn't matter whether you are Jack Nicholson or Joe Blow, everyone has to go through the screening."

Prior to the day of event, there was a major security scare as a vehicle run rings near the Dolby Theatre. Once stopped, the driver asserted that their was a bomb in the trunk. A robot was then used to open the trunk of the car which only revealed that it was a hoax. The said troubled driver was given a psychological evaluation after.
