Each of 2NE1 members has talents to boast. In fact they can stand on their own and do separate projects. Right now, CL is preparing for her upcoming album in US, while Minzy is reportedly gearing up for a solo music project as well. Are these solo gigs prevent them to perform on one stage together with Dara and Park Boom and disbandment of 2NE1?
The hit K-Pop leader CL has been buys for first English album that's set to release soon in the US. An extraordinaire project to watch for, the said album involves big names in international music scene such as Scooter Braun, songwriter Brackin and Grammy winner band Florence + the Machine. In her interview with Complex Magazine, CL or Lee Chae-rin imparted her hope to represent Korea the best way she can.
"There are so many Korean people here-and Chinese and Japanese-but they don't have one pop artist that they can look up to. That's kind of sad. I wish I could be that person for them to be proud of," the singer, who turned 24-year old on February 26, said.
I'm going to try my best to represent Korea in the best way. [Laughs] In a cool way. I feel like sometimes we have the wrong image, and I want to fix it a little bit. I'll try my best."
Few years back, there were already Korean acts that reached to US markets including Psy, BOA, and Girls Generation. Psy's 'Gangnam Style' left huge marks and intensified appreciations on Korean music. Incidentally, Scooter also collaborated with Psy's US debut. Does it mean she has tracks similar to fellow Korean singer's tested style or she's pressured to tap his records?
"He [Scooter] definitely respects me already as an artist, and he loves what I've been doing. He just wants to bring that out here and balance it out. It's not like I am going to sing a whole song in Korean like PSY, but I think it's a good balance. I want to represent Asian women in the right way. He wants to support that," CL said.
Meantime, there also reports that Minzy is also focusing on her own album. The 21-year old multitalented performer even uploaded her composition on Instagram. Apart from this the youngest member of 2NE1 shared video of her training or rehearsal when at Antoine Troupe's studio in LA, California early this year.
Since CL is in US, Minzy is reportedly has solo album to do, Dara has a web drama called 'Dr. Mo Clinic,' and Park Boom is taking a long break, there are speculations that the group that popularized 'Fire,' 'I Don't Care,' and 'Let's Go Party' is disbanding.
"That's not true! We just finished our tour and everybody gets to take a break now. It's just I don't get a break," CL also clarified on Complex.
