It is undeniable how piracy has affected the entertainment industry. However, it is unthinkable for some of the most well compensated artists to use pirated software in their craft. True, just about anyone with the right technical know-how can easily crack through online software. Thus, using torrented plugins can be deemed by one to be legitimate or not - remains to be a huge dilemma...especially in the case of artists such as Martin Garrix, Avicii, and Steve Aoki.
EDM Chicago has confirmed that Martin Garrix, one of the highest paid artists in EDM was spotted using plugin Sylenth1's cracked version. This news leaked at an interview made with Future Music. There were others who brilliantly observed Garrix using the cracked plugin, while to some, it went virtually unnoticed.
Meanwhile, in a separate report from Locker Dome, Avicii revealed that he has been using the well known Sylenth 1 plugin by Lennar Digital. Though this claim by Avicii was made in 2012, and it is possible that the legitimate version of the Sylenth 1 was used at that time, a reliable source made an astounding discovery. An expert examined Avicii's program and it was registered to "Team VTX 2011". That group is known to have cracked many software programs online. Avicii was clearly capable of purchasing the original software program at that time.
Another shocking revelation from The EDM Scene on this piracy issue focuses on Steve Aoki. At present, Aoki has an estimated net worth of $45 million. What's more surprising is that Aoki used the Sylenth cracked software during his collaboration with Linkin Park on the "A Light That Never Comes" track.
Steve Aoki was quite swift in his response. He said that he did make a purchase and he has enough proof. He even showed screenshots of his online purchase.
