Outlander Season 1 News: Producers Release Deleted Scenes and Claire's Internal Monologue in Alternate Ending Called 'No Lies'

By

Fans of television’s latest fantasy romance drama Outlander, may have found the ending of Episode 6 entitled The Garrison Commander, rather abrupt and lacking in any sort of spice. Executive producer Ron Moore, apparently mindful that viewers were left somewhat hanging, offers audiences an alternate ending called No Lies, which includes deleted scenes, an extended flashback to the 20th century and a lengthy internal monologue by lead character Claire (Caitriona Balfe).

International Business Times revealed that production firm Starz released several such promotional clips on-line in order to bridge the more than six month gap between the first half (8 episodes) and the second half (4 episodes) of Season 1. The website also released the four and a half minute video clip in its entirety.

The alternate ending does not really deviate from the original script, wherein Jamie (Sam Heughan) confides to Claire about his virginity prior to their marriage. It, however, expounds on certain details of the scene from Claire’s perspective that was largely left out in the on-air version, Moore explained at the start of the clip.

The scene begins with Claire asking Jaime if he wasn’t bothered by the fact that he was not marrying a virgin. Claire then flashes back (or forward) to 1945 wherein she tells husband Frank Randall (Tobias Menzies) the “she will always be his wife.” Then commences Claire’s long internal monologue, wherein she thinks to herself that marrying Jaime would greatly enhance her chances of survival given the fact that she was magically transported 200 years back in time!

Meantime, Starz came out with a new poster for their Outlander series, which is reportedly gaining popularity worldwide. The poster, which shows Claire holding a dagger with Jaime in the background, was released in The Wrap. The initial poster for the series showed actress Balfe in much the same pose, only that she was reaching for the hand of her husband, Frank, as though she was reaching for him through time and space!

Outlander returns to small screens on April 4 this year. The series will return with Episode 9 of Season 1 entitled “The Reckoning.”
