To prove that Samsung Electronics is really taking the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2015 by storm with its new flagship devices Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, the South Korean tech titan is reported to receive 20 million pre-orders.
A top executive at a leading mobile carrier in Europe revealed last week to a Korean news website at the expo in Barcelona that 15 million of Galaxy S6 and five million of Galaxy S6 Edge units have recorded pre-ordered from mobile carriers worldwide.
Speaking in anonymity, the mobile carrier executive said his company is overwhelmed with positive feedbacks of Samsung latest mobile devices. The Netherlands is the first country to get orders of Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. The entry-level 32 GB S6 will run to 700 euros, while the S6 Edge will run to 850 euros, both without a contract.
Previously, Samsung Electronics CEO Jong-kyun Shin admitted to reporters at the MWC convention that "pre-orders of the two Galaxy variants from our major clients are really huge." He furthered that he had no doubt that S6 will perform better than S5.
Samsung is reportedly to make up by launching an aggressive promotional campaign. The tech giant plans to offer more incentives and benefits to carriers and consumers before Apple will debut its latest smartphone offering before the year ends. Samsung has been experiencing market-share loss in the competitive smartphone showdown since 2010.
Mark Newman of Bernstein Research in Hong Kong said Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge have the potential to beat expectations.
"We think the components side of the S6 is more positive for Samsung's earnings direction, with the processor moving internally (saving potentially $28 a phone), significantly more memory (DRAM and particularly NAND) and the display showing off their technology lead in flexible OLED," Newman said in a report.
The S6 and S6 Edge sport a 5.1-inch OLED QHD display with a 2560x1440 resolution (557 ppi pixels per inch). Its screens are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4, and are powered by an Exynos 7420 processor, run on Android 5.0 Lollipop.
The devices come packed with 32GB, 64GB and 128GB internal memory as well as LPDDR 3 3GB RAM, and house a 16MP main camera with optical image stabilizer.
