If there is a word that can be used to describe how fans see the upcoming reboot of the Terminator franchise, it would be "nostalgic". From the seemingly overused one-liners such as "Come with me if you want to live" (said by Emilia Clarke's Sarah Connor) and the ever so famous "I'll be back" (by the Terminator himself), down to the face-off between the old and young Arnold Terminators, everything about 'Terminator: Genisys' attempts to remind us how cool the original movie was.
It does not stop there. In one of the more recent updates to the movie posted by International Business Times, it was reported that Kyle Reese, who will be portrayed by Jai Courtney, will be sporting the Nike Vandals footware line, which, if we all remember, was also worn by the first actor who portrayed Kyle Reese, Michael Biehn.
The first trailer for 'Terminator: Genisys' showed Kyle Reese going back in time naked and breaking into a mall to get some clothes. Looks like he will also be getting his pair of Nike Vandals there. This move by Paramount Pictures did encounter some issues as Nike is no longer manufacturing Vandals. While the footwear line's connection to the movie did bring it back into popularity, there was still the issue of the producers of 'Terminator: Genisys' requesting Nike to "drop the licensing fee" so that the newer action figures of Kyle Reese would have Vandals unlike the ones that are currently being sold.
It may sound too sentimental to focus on something as small as a character's footwear, but having Jai Courtney's Kyle Reese wearing the same pair of shoes may add to the 'Terminator' flavor that fans of the original films have been waiting to see.
