The upcoming Star Wars novel Lord of the Sith writer Paul S. Kemp has showcased the first LGBT character that is part of the official canon. It is the first lesbian character being introduced in new canon however, it isn't the first same-sex relationship in Star Wars .
In Star Wars Universe, same-sex relationships have yet to be explored. Recently, Bioware has added same gender relationships in Star Wars: The Old Republic", an online roleplaying game and in the novel "Legacy of the Force".
Karen Traviss has actually included two Mandalorians, Goran Beviin and Medrit Vasur who were in a committed marriage. The writer has been very clever in plotting the story which made some readers felt that they'd misinterpreted it without realizing that they were actually reading about two bisexual Mandalorian men.
In "Lord of Sith " there is no ambiguity for Moff Mors'character has been clearly revealed which is a lesbian Imperial Officer. Even Moff Mors has made very serious mistakes but she has been an incredibly capable leader.
Editor Shelly Shapiro opened up about Moff Mors character and Star Wars diversity during the discussion of the upcoming Lord of the Sith novel. "This is certainly the first LGBT character in canon but there was a gay Mandalorian couple, so it's not brand new. It is not something I really think about, it just makes sense. There should be diversity in Star Wars. You have all these different species and it would be silly to not also recognize that there's a lot of diversity in humans. If there's any message at all, it's simply that Started Wars is a diverse -or more so because they have alien species as humanity is in real life and we don't to pretend it's not. It just felt perfectly natural," Shapiro said.
Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens is set to be released on December 18, 2015 with PG-13 rating which will be directed by J.J. Abrams and has been written by J.J. Abrams, Lawrence Kasdam and Michael Arndt.
