Malina Weissman who played a young April O' Neil in Michael Bay's 2014 reboot of the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" will dip herself once more in another suitable role for her age. The newcomer is set to portray Kara Zor-El during her adolescent years in CBS' upcoming show "Supergirl".
Weissman whose recent credits include the 2015 musical biopic, "Thirsty" will be the latest addition to the cast which has now Dean Cain and Helen Slater. Both actors themselves had worn a cape and experienced the same misfortune whenever one is exposed to kryptonite. Cain is recognized for being the Man of Steel in the 1990s tv series Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, which was under ABC. Slater, meanwhile, played an earlier version of Kara Zor-El in the mid-80s Supergirl movie.
The comic book adaptation focuses on Melissa Benoist's (Glee, Whiplash) character who is Superman's cousin. She was also born on Krypton and had escaped the planet before it was destroyed. Kara was immediately taken under the wing the Danvers' family. Her foster family upon knowing of their adopted child's extraordinary capabilities made her aware not to demonstrate them to the public.
In a related story, "Supergirl" head honcho Greg Berlanti who is also behind Arrow and The Flash stated that the superhero drama series will be tonally closer to The Flash. "The nature of the character is a bit [more romantic], and who we have in her life and who we're surrounding her with. Also, tonally, I thought of those kind of characters as [strongly] DC Universe and I'm sure Geoff [Johns] would agree. And they both died in Crisis of Infinite Earths! So they're similar."
Supergirl had already began filming with producer, Andrew Kreisberg. He officially posted a tweet directly from the set. Also playing major roles in the tv series are Calista Flockhart, Mehcad Brooks, David Harewood and Chyler Leigh.
