Teen Wolf may be back for its Season 5 but some fan-favorite characters aren’t. Fans will certainly miss Coach Bobby Finstock’s tough love-style mentoring and incessant berating of his players in the MTV series this time around.
The announcement came from actor Orny Adams himself, who at a convention, told reporters that he won’t be reprising Coach Finstock on Season 5 of the series. He explained that he had other career commitments that cannot be put aside, and so he was constrained to make a decision. That decision was for him to leave Teen Wolf.
Adams, also a notable stand-up comic, further explained that he would like to give greater focus on his comedy career. He was not very specific as to his next job, though. The actor, however, hinted that he may soon be involved in a Netflix special, although that project is still up in the air.
While Coach Finstock was supposedly envisioned as little more than a support character in Season 1, Adams really brought him to life. Subsequent seasons dealt more with his origins and sort of explained why he could be so hard on his Lacrosse players as well as his economics students. Of his two occupations, it was clear that he was more passionate about coaching. Finstock/Adams has reportedly built-up quite a fan base in the four seasons that he was yelling at lazy players and underperforming students on campus.
With Adams’ departure from the series, there is some speculation as to who will replace him as coach of Scott’s Lacrosse team. After all, Lacrosse has become almost as important to the series as solving unexplained murders and other supernatural occurrences.
Entitled “Creatures of the Night,” Episode 1 of Season 5 may just usher in a somewhat darker and more mature Teen Wolf. The popular MTV series returns to small screens this June.
