It's a light, thin and short on ports for the new MacBook as Apple has reinvented its Ultrabook device launched recently. While Dells XPS 13 and Microsoft Surface Pro 3 are fighting a good fight despite design revamp of MacBook.
Apple has presented a refreshed Ultrabook with updated internals, and maximum speed and graphic performance. The new MacBook Pro sports a Retina display, new butterfly keyboard, new Force Touch trackpad, and new USB-C port.
The 12-inch MacBook offers the same 512GB internal storage, 8GB of RAM and memory configurations as the MacBook Air. By integrating Intel's latest Core M processor, MacBook brings more convenience since the processor gets away with the fan underneath. Meanwhile, the SD slot is gone which means transferring photos, music and other files will always need a USB cable. The new USB-C port, however, is an all-around dock.
The butterfly keyboard makes browsing on Wikipedia or through a video easy.
MacBook's battery life falls slightly short of the larger Air and its bigger battery. It comes in gold, space gray and silver colors. By next month, Apple will begin shipping the new MacBook at $1,299.
While Apple remains a laptop in every sense, Microsoft Surface Pro 3 gives a bit of flexibility when it comes to plug capabilities into the device.
Some tech geeks claim that Microsoft's Surface Pro 3 is better than the new MacBook.
Surface Pro 3 boasts foldability. Users can remove the keyboard and make use of the screen as a tablet. Its stylus or pen can be convenient when taking notes or working in a standing position. Its operating system Windows has more available software compared to OS X, while its USB 3.1 Type-C port is more useful than the two of MacBook.
Surface Pro 3's trackpad uses pressure detection to register clicks and other gestures although it uses older Haswell of Intel Core. Price for the device starts at $1800.
Meanwhile, Dell XPS 13 is head on to defy norms in laptop competition. Named "best laptop for 2015" by a news website, XPS 13 boasts its thin build, the thinnest when it came out last month. It still has fan. XPS 13's biggest advantage though is its ultra-thin bezel reduced to .4mm edges, boasting what it calls infinity display."
