LG G4 Release Update: Press Render, UX 4.0 Processor, April Release Date, And More

By

Following news of its April 2015 release, LG G4 is gradually getting attention via social media as new leaks have been posted showing an official press image of the LG's next flagship smartphone with a few other details.

Twitter account @OnLeaks claimed in its post that LG is on its "early (non-final)" press render of the LG G4 with dimensions 148.9 x 76.5 x 9.9mm. Earlier, the tipster already hinted that he had a quick preview of the device and waiting fans can expect high definition smartphone from LG.

However, the "non-final" statement could also mean that the new smartphone is subject to changes if found necessary. The expected LG G4 sports a metal-looking plastic chassis, dual-tone LED flash, volume rocker, laser focus, a sole speaker and a power/lock button on the back panel below the camera lens.

A beefed up camera sensor makes a huge difference for G4 from its successful predecessor. More premium build is also expected for the phone with early detailed specs, including Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 SoC, 16 megapixel back-facing camera with optimal image stabilization (OIS), 4K video capabilities, 3 gigabyte of RAM, 16 or 32 gigabyte of internal storage, and QHD display.

It was reported earlier that LG is working in the lab its own mobile processor chip called UX 4.0. In a news conference in Barcelona, Juno Cho of LG's handset division said: "Producing our own mobile application chips is very important. As LG Electronics has been consistent in developing these, we plan to gradually incorporate into our new models."

According to Cho, LG Electronics has been spending millions of dollars to create processors and scratch its dependency on Qualcomm.

With top-tier technology investors from different companies, Qualcomm is the leading purveyor of processor chip in the market. However, Cho stressed that LG also has greater tractability to expand its processor sourcing networks to second- and third-generation chips though there are a lot of issues to consider.

The Korean Times reported that LG Electronics "failed to show its G3 sequel - the LG G4 - in this year's MWC exhibition amid alleged overheating issues with Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 810 chips."

"We will announce LG UX 4.0 before announcing the LG G4. I think it is simply the best and the issue is how to best fit the new UX system into the G4 smartphone," said Cho.

Like the G Flex and G Flex 2 models, LG G4 appears to be curved and believed to be larger than the 5.5-inch G3. Recently, LG G4 was spotted running in test with Google's latest mobile operating system Android 5.1 Lollipop.

LG did not unveil the G4 smartphone at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2015. According to reports, LG chose to announce the launch of G4 to other event to avoid being overshadowed from expected hit Samsung's Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge and HTC's One M9.
