Spider Man Reboot Cast News: Sam Strike Strikes Out as Spidey But Lands Villain Role Instead

By

Actor Sam Strike may have struck out on landing the role of the new Peter Parker but he still managed to land a major role in the up and coming Spider Man reboot. Rumor has it the 'Eastenders' star will be an arch-villain from a crossover comic book universe!

Various sources seem to confirm that Strike will be playing the infamous masked mass murderer, Leatherface! Yes, this is apparently the very same Leatherface that made quite the bloody mess in the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre film. That cult-favorite classic also spawned a series of sequels and cross-overs in the years that would follow, all with Leatherface as their primary bad guy. He has even been known to go head to head with another infamous supernatural villain, Jason, in a cross over with the 'Friday the 13th' series!

Since reboots and crossovers are all the rage nowadays, the folks at Sony Pictures and Marvel probably scratched their heads and thought, "why can't we have both?" This will be the fourth Spider Man reboot since Nicolas Hammond was cast in the role as Spidey/Peter in that almost-forgotten 1970's film. Tobey McGuire and Andrew Garfield put on the iconic mask of the web-swinging hero much later.

All indications seem to indicate that moviegoers will be seeing a much younger Peter Parker this time around. Sony was reported to have been scouting around for a suitable 15-year old kid to play the role of a lifetime. The latest Spider Man film will likely show the wall-crawling nemesis of crime in his awkward high school years. This may also suggest that audiences will see Leatherface in his youth, perhaps before the confluence of events that turned him into a monster. This latest film may just turn out to be an origin story for both characters.

It still remains to be seen whether or not it is a good idea to merge the enduring superhero franchise with a horror movie series that is sustained largely by its cult following, according to industry observers. Comic book fans and horror aficionados may find out soon enough.
