By

Sleepy Hollow is in jeopardy. The Fox drama recently wrapped up its second season on a rather dark note, leaving fans on a cliffhanger with many unanswered questions. While fans of Sleepy Hollow are confident that there will be a Sleepy Hollow Season 3, showrunner Mark Goffman has stepped down from a potential new season.

It was reported that Sleepy Hollow executive producer Mark Goffman had departed from the series, leaving a Sleepy Hollow Season 3 in jeopardy. It is to be noted that it was Goffman who headed the series during its all-time high in the first season, as well as the recently concluded Sleepy Hollow Season 2.

While a search for Goffman's replacement is currently underway, it seems like many of the fans hopes for a Sleepy Hollow Season 3 renewal will be put in jeopardy. The show was a breakout success during its freshman run averaging over 8 million viewers. However, the numbers dwindled during sleepy Hollow Season 2, since viewership was down by around 40 percent, and has not been able to hit 5 million since October.

Tom Mison, who plays Ichabod Crane in the show has given his thoughts on a possible Sleepy Hollow Season 3 renewal. The actor admitted that while he believed that the show still had a lot of potential, he believed that the series ended well, should the show be cancelled.

"If there is no third season, then it certainly feels like ending it on a high and rounding it off nicely" Mison said.

If fans would want to see a Sleepy Hollow Season 3, they can understand that Fox finding a strong replacement for Mark Goffman is indeed crucial. There are no reports as of this moment as to who the show's replacement will be, one can be certain that the replacent will certainly have some big shoes to fill.

The second season had ended on a cliffhanger with Ichabod's loved ones dying. Goffman had previously given a rather vague light on a possible Sleepy Hollow Season 3 renewal.

"This had very much been the plan from the beginning. It just took a while to get there. But we always wanted to keep the show focused on them and always knew that some form of this was going to be the ending. Of course, you always want to give yourself room during the course of the season to see how things are playing and see how audiences are reacting, how the writers are reacting, how the cast is meshing, but ultimately, this really felt like the right way to end both this season and launch Season 3." Goffman said.
