New 'Minecraft' Installer Launched: Java 8 Update Aims to Remove Security Threats to PC Users

By

Game developer Mojang has just released a new 'Minecraft' updated installer that provides security to PC gamers.

This latest update ties in Java with 'Minecraft' during download avoiding the separate full version of Java.

Engadget reported that this new 'Minecraft' update provides a stand-alone version of Java when the game is downloading and protects users from potential security threats brought about by old Java set up which worked independently of the game. Also, this version only runs when the game is active.

Latino Post cited that this update is only available for PC users, however, Mojang did confirm that it will be available for OS X users somtime this year. Click here to download.

According to The Register, the preceding set up enabled users to uncheck boxes during the Java download to keep extra options and unecessary items to be added. For example, one particular security threat to PC users was the Java browser plugin but this has been removed in the updated installer.

As much as this new 'Minecraft' update benefits players' security, it also helps players keep up with Java updates that used to be a hassling task. Now that Java is bundled with 'Minecraft', players will update more frequently which developer Nathan "Dinnerbone" Adams believes can improve game's performance. He has been exerting efforts to convince players to get the latest update, Java 8.

"A really, really big percentage of our players use 32-bit java on 64-bit machines, and they don't even know," Dinnerbone wrote on Reddit post The Register quoted. "64-bit java runs significantly better in a lot of scenarios for 'Minecraft,' so it's just a waste that they do this."

Adams effort to persuade the gamers to use Jave 8 is closing in to his goal based on his recent tweet.

Roughly 60% of Minecraft players are using java 8 now. This is awesome. <3

Adams added that the update will also be useful as there are greater than 90% of 'Minecraft' PC users are using a version of Windows.
