With G4 smartphone's mid-year release on the brink of reports, LG has been reported anew to announce a smartphone/tablet hybrid called G4 Note expected to battle out a strong competition among high-end large screen devices dominated by Samsung and Apple.
A South Korean news website reported earlier today that LG Electronics is brewing the G4 Note phablet in the lab to start up a hard-hitting competition with Samsung Galaxy Note and Apple iPhone 6 Plus. According to the site's sources, "G4 may not be the only flagship handset" of the tech titan this year as an imminent G4 Note may come out alongside.
According to LG's new CEO Ju-no Cho, the upcoming G4 is expected to sport an improved display, a better user experience and enhanced camera. The device will reportedly have a curved 5.5-inch 3K display. A 600 per inch pixel density will also bring the device raves.
The same website reported that LG has already applied for the phablet's trademark at the Korean patent office in February.
Tech analysts suspected that the new phablet could be a first-class device mentioned by Cho at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2015 in Barcelona last week. Cho said in a news conference that LG will launch G4 in the second quarter of 2015 and another high-end device in the second half.
Although he did further the details, Cho referred this product as a "higher-end product" that the G4.
Optimus O Pro and G Pro 2 were the last phablets released by company expected to rival Galaxy Notes. However, it was deemed failed attempt of LG since "it cannibalized LG's other flagship smartphones feature larger displays."
Apple and Samsung both devised the two-track marketing strategy since last year by releasing two main flagship products. LG, meanwhile, is poised to perform well in the global high-end smartphone market hugely because of G3's triumphant release in 2014.
"The firm will grab the third place in terms of sales in the global mobile market," said Cho. "The upcoming premium phones would help it obtain that spot."
The G3 smartphone boasts killer features such the world's first Quad HD display and superb cameras. In 2014, LG has sold 7 million G3 handsets as of May and is expected to hit over 10 million units later in the year's first half.
