Microsoft Vows Faster Windows 10 Preview Release After Complaints of Build’s Overdue

By

What Microsoft has promised last January that Windows 10 previews will come out faster than usual, many IT professionals and tech experts in the Windows Insider Program have been left in the air waiting for the new preview that has not arrived regularly as promised.

Gabrial Aul, general manager for the data and fundamentals team of Microsoft's Operating System Group, took on its blog and Twitter account in response to wailing tech experts and IT professionals regarding the overdue builds and some other issues.

One question on Twitter says: "I thought you said in January that builds will be coming faster from now on?"

Aul noted that Microsoft had been too conservative about pushing builds faster for Windows Insiders. He explained: "The reality is that faster builds to you will include more bugs, and so far we've erred on the side of stability. In the process though we've not had as much distinction between Fast and Slow."

According to the executive, they are still debating whether to simply adjust the speed/risk balance of the fast ring or create a new ring.

Another tweet asks: "Why can't you just tell us when the next build will be? Can't you be more transparent?"

Aul furthered that the team cannot provide a predictable build schedule when the builds to reach Windows Insiders. "Sometimes they will be faster, and sometimes slower," he adds.

The latest build of Windows 10 preview is overdue. Recently, Microsoft explained a 30-day release goal and it had been 40 days on March 10 since it was released. Instead, Microsoft's development team possibly could start to release multiple builds of the preview each month.

The internal "Canary" ring at Microsoft gets the earliest look. Later, the build gets sent to Operating System Group internal testers. After that point, the build gets released to public Windows Insider program.

Beginning March, it could be possible that there will be two Windows 10 preview builds to be released.

Aul clarified that Microsoft was not trying to be "opaque" about its Windows 10 preview build communications as a well-thought build must be planned out by the team before it reaches to the Windows Insiders community.
