Willie Nelson’s Death Hoax: Who is to Blame?

By

Willie Nelson was grieved over by netizens as news of his death took Facebook by storm. News of the artist's death caused fans all over the world to lament. However, the news of his death has now been confirmed a complete hoax. Reports all point to Mediamass.net as the source of the hoax.

A misleading, click-generating website, that's what mediamass.net is. It was them who spread the hoax all over the internet, and into Facebook, all meant to drive traffic to them. This is not the first time mediamass.net did the gimmick; it is notorious for posting fake death stories of famous people. Ricky Martin, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Johnny Depp, Will Smith, Rowan Atkinson, Vin Diesel, and Sylvester Stallone were some of the stars they tried to spread rumors of death just this year. Some of those might not have gained traction, but to fake the death of the 81-year old Country singer, now that is somehow believable.

The news of the Willie Nelson's death became more convincing when a Facebook page entitled 'RIP Willie Nelson' claimed that the old singer had died on March 6. Posted on the page is: "At about 11 a.m. ET on Monday (March 09, 2015), our beloved guitarist Willie Nelson passed away. Willie Nelson was born on April 30, 1933 in Abbott. He will be missed but not forgotten. Please show your sympathy and condolences by commenting on and liking this page." The page reportedly garnerned a million likes and thousands of comments of grievances.

Now looking at Mediamass.net's webpage, they are trying to clean up and debunk the hoax they spread themselves to drive more traffic to their site and gain more clicks.

Willie Nelson is still alive, well, and still singing. In fact he will perform in South by Southwest Music and Media Conference next week in texas.
