Xiaomi fans may need to wait until Q4 of 2015 before getting their hands on the new Xiaomi Mi5 phone unit.
Chinese phone manufacturer is expected to formally launch the product in Singapore, Malaysia, Canada, US, Germany, and UK by June. By July, India, Indonesia, Australia, and Russia get to see it next.
As for the rest of the world, Q4 is the time of reckoning.
Xiaomi is expected to flex its muscles and conquer non-Asian markets, as it already has quite a following especially in Southeast Asia. That's why the handset maker is seen going release the newest model of its former flagship phone in unfamiliar territories first, while expecting their popularity to remain in places where they already gained a following.
The company's products are considered the alternative to handsets released by US's Apple and Korea's Samsung.
In January, the Beijing-based electronics company unveiled its new flagship line, the Mi Note and the Mi Note Pro. The release plans of Xiaomi is seen as an effort to let these units sink their teeth into the market before the releasing its Mi5. This may also be a move to prevent the two product lines from unnecessarily competing with each other.
With its specs, its Q4 release might be worth the wait, as this LTE-ready unit boasts of a powerful Quad-core 2.7 GHz Krait 450 on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 chipset. With its internal 3GB RAM and 32GB storage, it's sure to adequately support numerous apps on its Andriod 5.0 platform.
Mi5 has a 5.5-inch IPS LCD touchscreen with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels, which will let users enjoy its 16MP main camera and 8MP secondary camera.
As of now, there are rumors that this white unit will be available as well in a black variant. Images of the white unit are already leaked on the internet.
The Xiaomi Mi5 will fetch for around US$350, which is indeed a steal. How it will perform, though, remains to be seen.
