Android 5.0 Lollipop update will now finally arrive in Sony's Xperia Z devices, including Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1s, Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia Z1 Compact, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z2 Tablet, Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3v, Xperia Z3 Compacy and Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact.
Sony has just verified the good news via Twitter that Android 5.0 Lollipop update will be available to the said devices before this year's March ends. According to Sony, they are now doing finishes, tests and optimizations for Lollipop for the entire Xperia Z series lineup in both smartphones and tablets.
Another information comes from the Sony India's R&D team. Sony India has leaked the information in an online publication with regards to Sony's schedule of update release dated March 8. However, as per panel of OTA shows that the update is currently uploading, which means the update is still being loaded on Sony' servers.
The update took longer before it came to Sony while other top smartphone brands in the market have been scratching to get ahead of their rivals. In a report, Sony has taken a good amount of time to fix all bugs and issues for the final firmware so it would not cause disappointment with users. Early rollout might mean buggy update.
Sony also divulged new features such as multi-user support, better screen lock, optimal storage and intelligent user interface.
The update on Xperia Z2 is 517.86MB, while 630.23MB for Xperia Z3. The update is reportedly to take advantage of more improvements and new features. The official Sony Mobile Indonesia Facebook page shows that Xperia Z devices here will get the Lollipop update on March 16.
Sony has been struggling in the smartphone competition as other firms project killer specs and cutting-edge designs.
Meanwhile, Sony Xperia Z3 has been spotted at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2015 in Barcelona, Spain running with Android 5.0.2 Lollipop. A video presentation of the phone shows visible changes in the device, including the soft keys at the bottom, an updated launcher and redesigned app icons based on Google's Material Design user interface guidelines, new notifications menu with quick settings, and a new Music app.
