Plans for the "Five Armies" downloadable content update for "Lego: The Hobbit" have been discontinued by Warner Bros., according to IGN. The downloadable content, based on the final part of "The Hobbit" trilogy, was designed to finish the storyline established by the game.
"The Lego The Hobbit videogame gives LEGO and Middle-earth fans a fun, new way to experience the legendary adventures of Bilbo and company as told in the first two films of Peter Jackson's The Hobbit trilogy. The game provides an excellent set-up for the concluding chapter of Peter Jackson's film, The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies. There are no plans to develop DLC based on the final film of the trilogy," said Warner Bros. in their official statement released to Gamespot.
"Lego: The Hobbit" is based on the storyline spanning the first two films of the trilogy. The game was released in April 2014 to coincide with the premiere of the trilogy's final film.
The game featured events and characters also featured in the films "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" and "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug," according to Polygon.
Similar to the movies, the game's storyline concludes with a cliffhanger.
Originally, a press release dated for April 8, 2014 indicated plans Warner Bros. had to finish the game with new downloadable content based on the final film from the trilogy. The press release indicated the downloadable content would have been named "There and Back Again."
Reports surrounding the release date of "There and Back Again" indicated the downloadable content would have been available by Christmas of 2014, according to Polygon.
Warner Bros. has not yet offered any more details regarding their decision to cancel the downloadable content for the game. The company has also announced it will not make a new game based on the third and final film of "The Hobbit" franchise.
