Playstation fans are in for a treat as Sony announces another free online multiplayer promo set this coming weekend. The free online play event will start off on Friday, March 20 and will run through Sunday. Fans of the console are excited as the announcement coincides with the release of Battlefield Hardline, EA's new Battlefield series installment.
According to a post in the Playstation blog by Playstation Plus Lead manager, Anson Fong, the free online multiplayer event will start on Friday, march 20 at 12:01AM PT to Sunday, March 22, at 11:59PM PT. During this event gamers can try out new multiplayer games without the need for any subscription.
This is not the first time Playstation held this kind of event as similar free online play promos were offered before. The last PS free promo offer also coincided with the release dates of anticipated games namely Madden NFL 15 and Activision's Destiny. The promo was well received by gamers and many became excited with the announcement of another chance for free online play this weekend.
It can be remembered that Sony announced a $50 annual Playstation plus subscription requirement to access PS4 online multiplayer features. The company defends its decision explaining to the press that maintaining the PS4's online multiplayer service free of charge is extremely difficult. The move mimics Microsoft's Xbox online multiplayer subscription, but plans to add a few bonuses such as free games for subscribers.
Playstation may have started a new gaming tradition as upcoming releases of big and anticipated games can have free online multiplayer gigs as promotion. There is no doubt that Sony's PS brand have set the standards on how consoles should work and is expected to continue its success. As the Playstation console is now in its 20th year, Sony continues to surge forward in the gaming console industry, promising gamers more network features, services and most of all games to play.
