A Payday-esque touch is Walking Dead author Robert Kirkman description of the upcoming Walking dead video game in an interview at SXSW. The author points out that the next instalment in the Walking dead franchise will feature not only a payday like action experience but a bigger game world as well.
This is great news for Walking Dead fans as the last title, Walking Dead: Survival Instinct was a total disappointment. Overkill software and Starbreeze studios, the game developers that made the critically acclaimed multiplayer co-op game Payday, is now tasked in creating the new Walking Dead Game.
Since the Walking Dead TV series started airing in 2010, many were already expecting a video game based on the graphic, zombie infested survival episodes. However, the same riveting experience has not transferred completely to its game version, making fans nod their head in dismay.
Walking dead: Survival Instinct reviews coming from sites such as Metacritic, IGN and Eurogamer unanimously agreed that the game was a flop. IGN frankly stating on its review page that "it (the game) gives license games a bad name." From flawed game designs to wasted game concepts and ideas, Survival Instinct was a failure.
However, the Walking Dead Franchise will try to rise out of its apparent grave and plunge gamers into an authentic, zombie-hell gaming experience that it should have been. Like the zombies that refuses to die, the Walking dead game franchise refuses to pull the plug. The answer seemed to be in the hands of Starbreeze Studios and so the torch passes to this rising company that has the Payday franchise under its belt.
According to updates posted on Starbreeze studio's website, Overkill's Walking dead will explore new storylines and revamp the Walking dead universe by adding a new gaming experience through its payday like coop multiplayer feature. Bo Andersson Klint, CEO of Starbreeze, also points out on their website that through the collaboration of Starbreeze studios and Skybound interactive, they will "deliver something uniquely exciting" for the franchise's wide fan base.
