Kathy Griffin speaks up on her departure from 'Fashion Police', says it's 'dog pile'

After quitting "Fashion Police", Kathy Griffin bashed the show by saying it's a "dog pile" and "disingenuous." Kathy Griffin made it clear that she quit "Fashion Police" after just seven episodes because her improvisational style did not suit the 'very formulaic' approach of the show.

"I don't really feel it was my best work, I'll be honest," Griffin told "The View". "I stand by my specials and my series. The lane that that show was in was so specific that they were not able to make the transition to the comedic lane that I work in. I just don't think that it's really what I do."

The 54-year old comedienne also said that she was not comfortable with the "dog pile" aspect of the show. "I've never worked on a show with so many leaks," she said.

Griffin also criticized the writers of "Fashion Police" in Howard Stern's Sirius XM for "forcing" her to say things which she does not feel like saying. "And after awhile, I kind of felt like I was being forced to comment on pictures of beautiful women in perfect dresses, and say kind of bad things. As a feminist and a comic, it just didn't feel like the right fit for me."

Entertainment Weekly also claimed that Griffin described her experience with "Fashion Police" felt hypocritical and the show only exists because it criticizes celebrities. "I go for behavior as stuff to play with. In my repertoire, I've said heinous things - I'm well aware of that, trust me," said Griffin.

"On the red carpet, all these women look so great. I was hoping we could talk about the events themselves and the shows, so I didn't want to say that Meryl Streep didn't look great, because she looked great," she added.

CBS News reported that Griffin also tweeted that the show conflicts with her goal of helping "women, gay kids, people of color" and anyone who feels underrepresented to have a voice and a laugh.

"There is plenty to make fun of in pop culture without bringing people's bodies into it. ... I do not want to use my comedy to contribute to a culture of unattainable perfectionism and intolerance towards difference," she posted.

Griffin also paid homage to the late Joan Rivers when she said on Howard Stern's show that, "I think Joan was the master of the one-liners and the zingers."

Despite the controversy, Griffin said that E!, the producer of "Fashion Police", was nice to her when she ended their partnership. "When it came time to leave, they were very nice to me," she told The View. "They weren't mean or evil. No harm, no foul," said Griffin, who quit the show after co-host Kelly Osbourne suddenlly went awol.

Kelly Osbourne, who praised Kathy Griffin for leaving Fashion Police, is still mum about her reason for leaving the show after five years as co-host. However, there are reports that she left because, like Griffin, she is also uncomfortable with the scripts being fed by the writers of the show.
