Battlefield Hardline: Not Like Classic Battlefield, Reviews Stilll in Progress, Badge Flaunt and Freeze

By

Electronic Arts' Battlefield franchise ups the ante with another hard hitting title release, Hardline. Fans are completely riveted by the trailers EA released, but is the game worth buying?

The official reviews from game critics such as IGN are still in progress. IGN reviewer Brian Albert tells readers in IGN's page, that they will release a full review after playing hardline, especially its multiplayer component in every platform it is on for 48 hours and test its servers.

Brian continues dissecting the game during his interview with Brandin Tyrell, IGN's Associate editor that the characters and script for the single player mode were well written. Brian points out that the writing kept the story from being too cliché.

IGN also commented that they "love" the new multiplayer mode, Hotwire, a capture game that involves driving vehicles to a certain speed to get points. Action is multiplied in this mode, making it one of the interesting modes in Hardline.

Another reaction from critics is Hardline's apparent divergence from its roots as being a straightforward warzone shooting fest, but instead edged closely to a stealth game. However, it gives more depth to the gameplay as it gives gamers other ways to complete missions. However, Gamespot reviews focus more in fault-finding and saw numerous flaws in the game. One that tops the list is the badge flaunt in tandem with shouting "freeze" that completely intimidates a killer with a high-powered weapons to just simply lie down and surrender.

Other noticeable difference of Hardline to Battlefield 3 and 4 is the "warzone" factor that ignited the whole franchise from the start. Hardline gives players a cops-and-robbers game instead of a full, vehicle infested, explosion riddled, chaotic battlefield.

On the other hand, PCgamer's reaction to the trailer gives mixed feelings. One is that the game is ridiculously fine, and the other is that "it wrecks everything for justice." Andy Chalk, daily coverage freelancer for PCgamer.com tells readers that the game totally misrepresents how law enforcement works and that the game is not "...fundamentally different than your cops-and-robbers action flick." However, he ends it with a note that he likes it.

Though the full reviews are still to come, from the initial reaction of most critics, the game is seemingly on its way to being a success.
