Kendrick Lamar had always been one of the most talented and talked about rappers in the world. His much anticipated new album called 'To Pimp My Butterfly' had just recently set a record breaking most streamed album on Spotify. Kendrick Lamar's album has 16 tracks with 9.6 million times streamed last Monday. Spotify stated that only complete track listens were counted in the figure.
The album was made available on Spotify and iTunes earlier than expected. The 27-year-old singer from Compton California made an announcement that he will be releasing his hip-hop album on the 23rd of this month, but shockingly, it was out a week before.
Hours later, the album was already pulled from iTunes which seems to root from a record miscommunication. Anthony Tiffith, CEO of Top Dawg Entertainment, tweeted on March 16, 2015: "I WOULD LIKE 2 PERSONALLY THANK @Interscope FOR F*CKING UP OUR RELEASE... SOMEBODY GOTS 2 PAY 4 THIS MISTAKE!!!! #TOP- dangerookipawaa TDE (@dangerookipawaa)"
The album was under two record labels: Interscope and Top Dawg Entertainment. But after the leakage incident, they all seemed to accept the leak by just tweeting: "TO PIMP A BUTTERFLY. https://smarturl.it/ToPimpAButterfly ... ... (explicit version)."
Since the most awaited album in the hip-hop industry has been released, they cannot do anything now, even when the Interscope had it pulled out from iTunes. TDE's CEO simply tweeted again: "Working on getting the iTunes link fixed smh." By 1:14 in the afternoon that same day, the album was made available on iTunes one more time.
Leakage seems truly inevitable in the music industry, especially for the most sought-after artists. 'To Pimp a Butterfly' has personal explorations on racism, and personal struggles with strength. It must be a pretty good album, and if you haven't listened to it yet, you might want to contribute to its 9.6 million stream.
