It seems likely that we'll be seeing the PS4 slim earlier than the usual 3-year wait period, while PS5 will come out in 2020. That is, if the game console's release history is to be taken into account.
The PS4 slim became highly anticipated following a leak containing images of the console's design. Manufacturer Sony is known to release slim and improved (and less expensive) versions of their Playstation consoles three years after their original versions (referred to as fat versions) come out. With the leak of the so-called "2015 Confidential Material" containing pictures and slides of the Sony PS4 Slim, speculations about an earlier release date like June 2015 have risen.
While there are some who doubt the legitimacy of the images, especially since no specifications of the model was included in the slides, it still makes sense for at least the physical design of the unit to be decided by this time for Sony to keep its three-year slim schedule release.
It is also rumored to be the console manufacturer's way of trying to halt the reported rise in Microsoft's Xbox One sales, a gaming console that is US$50 cheaper. Apparently, its November and December sales were much more than the Playstation's, thus possibly prompting Sony to push for an earlier release of the PS4 Slim.
Meanwhile, anticipating the PS5's release is way too early. However, judging from the way the company previously released its gaming console line, there appears to be a five- to seven-year gap between Playstation versions.
PS4 was released on November 15, 2013 which is seven years later than the PS3's November 11, 2006 coming out date. On the other hand, PS3 came out about six years after PS2's March 4, 2006 release date which in turn is a little more than five years earlier than the first Playstation's release. Seeing this trend, it's safe to say that a PS5 console would be out sometime in 2020 assuming that it's already either in its conceptualization or designing stage right now.
