The StarCraft story will finally close after 17 years with Legacy of the Void, but as Blizzard said to IGN, "StarCraft will live on as a universe." After almost two decades since the release of StarCraft 1 in 1998, the original story finally concludes with Legacy of the Void, but fans are assured that it is not the end of the franchise.
Blizzard told fans through IGN that they will continue on with this universe and explore more storylines, characters and plots. They said that the storyline of Starcraft 1 and 2, will come to a "satisfying conclusion," with this upcoming StarCraft title. Though rumors of a StarCraft III is circulating, Blizzard is not divulging any such plans.
StarCraft is a Real-time strategy game developed by Blizzard. It was first released in 1998 and quickly became that year's best-selling game. The game revolves on the three-way tug of war between Terrans, a breed of human explorers, Protoss, an intelligent alien race using PSI powers and the Zerg, which is an insectoid species.
Legacy of the Void gives finality to the original storyline where the human race is thrust unwillingly in an intergalactic war between the Protoss and Zerg. Blizzard reassures fans that they will get satisfying closures to characters introduced in this storyline.It can be said that the company is closing a chapter in this StarCraft novel and opening up another with more exciting and riveting stories in store.
StarCraft is already considered by many gaming critics as the defining game of the RTS genre. It sparked PC strategy games on its release in 1998 and is one of the best games of all time and among the most famous videogames worldwide. Legacy of the Void Beta is set for release on March 31, but the full release date of the game is yet to be announced.
