While Metal Gear Solid V game director Hideo Kojima has been confirmed to do the game's latest title The Phantom Pain, publisher Konami has also revealed that Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will not kill off the series.
Konami (via Google Translate) released a press statement on its website recently saying that the open world action-adventure stealth videogame will be continuing, even after the Japanese director sets out after The Phantom Pain releases. Kojima and developer Kojima Productions have made The Phantom Pain, its predecessor Ground Zeroes, Metal Gear 1, 2, 3, and 4, Peace Walker, and other games in its three decades of running.
According to the statement, Konami is in quest of a whole new team of developers to assist with the development of future Metal Gear games and begin dispatching upcoming titles. Although Kojima's camp did not respond to any media queries, Konami already removed the logo of Kojima Productions from Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain's promotional material.
The press statement fully reads: "After we finish MGSV, Mr. Kojima and upper management will leave Konami. They said their contract ends in December. At a team meeting, Mr Kojima explained that team have to be one and make a good game for fans. Konami Digital Entertainment, including Mr. Kojima, will continue to develop and support Metal Gear products. Please look forward to future announcements."
Kojima has first been rumored to leave his directorship since last week when different news came out-either Konami is undergoing restructuring or Kojima Productions has been disbanded.
Meanwhile, Kojima reaffirmed Konami's statement saying: "We want to reassure fans that I am 100% involved and will continue working on Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain," he said. "I'm determined to make it the greatest game I've directed to date. Don't miss it."
The Phantom Pain will pursue the plot of Ground Zeroes. It will be available on Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 on September 1, 2015 and PC on September 15, 2015, including Microsoft Windows.
