In several countries in the United States of America, Cannabis or better known a Marijuana is legalized. Nonetheless, in other states, it is not yet approved or the legalization is on process. Debate for marijuana's ratification is still going on as there are so many claims that the drug is said to have health benefits, but others believed it will just ruin the society.
In Beacon Hill, a district in Boston, Massachusetts, council members are focusing their work on legalizing weed and they are expected the proposal would be done before the 2016 presidential elections will commence next year. The purpose of the bill is to regulate the use, legalize and tax marijuana.
According to Senator Patricia D. Jehlen, the sponsor of the said bill, it is a good idea to allow the use of Cannabis and fast track the talks about it. "Wouldn't it be a good idea for the Legislature to look at it ahead of time, listen to every point of view, anticipate every problem that we could, and try to do it right?" Senator Jehlen said.
Meanwhile, Senate President Stanley C. Rosenberg, who's said to be opposing the approval of marijuana usage, thinks it's now the time to talk about it in the Senate. "I think it's better if we're going to do this, to do it in the Legislature than on the ballot. I believe if the Legislature doesn't act on it, it will be done on the ballot," the Senate leader stated.
However, there are other lawmakers who stand with their decision to junk the bill as this will result to a much greater conflict in the state. According to House Republican leader Bradley H. Jones Jr., he can't seem to understand why there is a need to speed up the talks about cannabis. "I just don't understand how we can be in this headlong rush to legalize when we're dealing with the opioid crisis in the state," Jones said.
