Star Wars: The Force Awakens has been the subject of speculation since the very moment it was announced. And during all that speculation, J.J. Abrams had one response- total denial. No comments whatsoever on those spoilers. It's his way- the director is famously secretive, having pulled similar stunts with the television show LOST and with his last Star Trek film, Star Trek Into Darkness.
However, Abrams is actually coming clean about Star Wars secrets- at least, more than he ever has before. When asked about the level of secrecy he's had to uphold while filming The Force Awakens, the Star Wars director spoke candidly... for at least a few minutes.
"The level of scrutiny is pretty much unprecedented for me," Abrams says. "My dream is that, despite so many rumours - many of which are true, many of which are untrue - when people see the movie, they see something that hasn't been completely ruined for them by having read spoilers they might not have wanted to read."
One very important part of Abrams' statement: "many of which are true, many of which are untrue." That confirms it- some of the Star Wars spoilers that have dotted the internet over the past two years have been right on the money.
But which ones? It's unclear, and made all the more confusing by the sheer number of Star Wars: The Force Awakens spoilers out there. Some of them being extremely major, like famous characters dying, and main characters being the long-lost children of classic Star Wars characters (at some point, all three of the leads- John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver- have been rumored as the son or daughter of a major Star Wars name). Of course, there are also smaller details that have been leaked, like scene descriptions and bits of plot and connective tissue.
Given Abrams' usual secrecy, it's likely we won't find out what was really real until Star Wars: The Force Awakens is actually in theaters. The film premieres on December 18, 2015.
