Game of Thrones Season 5 Promises to Top All Others; Clips Reveal Main Story Plots and Character Changes

By

Winter is coming in Game of Thrones. A month from now, Season 5 brings the continuation of HBO's hit series based on the book of the same name.

Some clips of the Season 5 are out. One shows Tyrion and Varys after leaving the bloodbath of King's Landing as Stannis Baratheon heads north to the Wall and arrives to confront the White Walkers. Meanwhile, Mance Ryder has his army in the Wall and unites the Freefolk and the Wildlings against the mysterious enemies there.

HBO recently announced the series' debut date of April 12, alongside Veep and Silicon Valley for the Sunday Night Lineup.

One of the most anticipated parts of the unpredictable story (where some of the more favored characters somehow end up dead at some point) is Tyrion's change of heart and how it will affect the people around him. He now sports a beard, which is amusing. Arya also has a new look at Braavos, and so does Dany.

"It was my favorite season so far," said Gwendoline Christie, who plays Brienne of Tarth, on the series at the San Francisco War Memorial Opera House during the fifth season's U.S. premiere.

"It's definitely my favorite. You keep thinking, 'How can it possibly top each time? How can it achieve more and be more climactic? And I think it achieves it by being more complex and all the subtleties of what (author George R.R. Martin) does and now (showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss). They take the worst thing possible and twist it into something else entirely," she added.

Meanwhile, Martin took the time to explain during the premiere (titled The Wars to Come) why the production of the next book of the series, A Song of Fire and Ice, is being slow.

"There's more pressure every year. Everybody wants it. The readers want it, my agents want it, the publishers want it, HBO wants it, but I want it most of all," Martin said.

"Ultimately, as much as I'd like to say that the book is going to be done next week...the main thing is to make the book as good as I can possibly make it," he ended.
