Samsung Galaxy S6 vs OnePlus Two: With Fingerprint Reader, Wireless Charging In for Samsung, and More

By

For a moment there, you'd think Pete Lau's OnePlus One would own the Android spotlight for the longest time as everyone's favorite product but now that Samsung Inc. has officially introduced its flagship product Samsung Galaxy S6, it's inevitable a classic showdown - one way or the other - is going to take place. But the debate could be moot and academic as OnePlus Two is on the verge of being launched.

Before anyone could jump the gun on us, here is a glorious take on the matter - as barebones as it should be. For starters, OnePlus One already gave us a glimpse on how it won a lot of points in the Marketing Department - by the merits of its catchy name alone and its one-of-a-kind marketing tactics. But as we all know, this Android slugfest goes beyond straightforward nomenclature and sales and OnePlus Two could follow a totally different route.

Upping the Ante on Design

You won't be disappointed with the just-launched Samsung Galaxy S6 if aesthetics would be your best criteria.

As rightfully coined by CNET, S6 is Samsung reborn. Say goodbye to Samsung and its plastic world and welcome the classic combination of a smartphone in suave aluminum and glass.

Plus more, you'd love the S6 slim frame. At 5.1 inches it stands points smaller than the current OnePlus model. But as OnePlus Two is rumored to be a smaller model as hinted by OnePlus' Carl Pei on Reddit, things might be even in this area.

And not only did Samsung went about-face in the materials department, more shockingly you'd find a sealed-in battery minus the conventional miscroSD extra expansion slot. The result: a slim product that's too sexy for the OnePlus One - though some may find the exclusions a drag.

There's one catch: Owe it to perhaps to a similar target market, this new flagship product from Samsung looks erringly a lot like the iPhone 6, as TechnoBuffalo spills it out.

So in the Style Department, it's easy to see Samsung Galaxy S6 is a stunner, outflanking perhaps the CyanogenMod-driven OnePlus Two - if rumored specs would hold that is.

Feature by Feature Blow by Blow

To a large extent, this newly-launched Samsung flagship is packed with a punch and would probably outbox the OnePlus Two in many departments. Again, we are beholden to speculation bereft of the actual unit in our hands.

The Galaxy S6 packs a higher-resolution display amped at 2560 x 1440 pixel display. If OnePlus Two will go the way of OnePlus One it would pale at 1920 x 1080 - though still not bad.

Storage options-wise the new Galaxy will also leave Pete Lau's product in the dust as the S6 can go as high as 128GB in storage while the Two is rumored to hold just a 64-GB max.

Now here is where things may get a little tricky for the OnePlus Two: S6 comes with a fingerprint reader and has built-in wireless charging and IR remote. The last feature means the Samsung product can control audio/video devices like your TV. Cool.

So, the Samsung Galaxy S6 could be in another class - definitely one in the heavyweight department - if OnePlus Two can't help it since it still is about to be released.

But let's not forget if you're keen about better battery life and a a bigger screen, OnePlus One may give us a glorious clue and if it follows its lead, OnePlus Two's tough to beat - not to mention what could be some savings on its price.

Though we've heard OnePlus Two could come in at the $500-range too. By far, it's still a wait and see game.
